Apparently, this is one of the ways to pass time. Writing calligraphy in the park, using water. I saw this a few times when I was walking around in a couple of parks. This old man was the first one I saw. He was dipping this sponge tipped stick in a bucket of water kept nearby and copying out Chinese characters (Hanzi) from a book in his hand, on to the walkway. It didn’t matter that what he wrote 5 minutes ago had already dried off. Hmm, a good way to practise my writing…

  1. Beautiful picture, Birdy! I have heard that calligraphy is an art form and has styles similar to painting styles. I went for a fun calligraphy class once. We were taught the six basic strokes in calligraphy style. ‘Na’ was really tough – because we had to write it without taking the pen off the paper! I couldn’t get it right till the end 🙁
